According to ESPN's Shams Charania, San Antonio Spurs legendary head coach Greg Popovich will no longer serve as team head coach and will serve as team president full time.

Popovich, 76, is the most winning coach in NBA history, and has led the Spurs to five championships in his 29 years in San Antonio. He has served as the acting head coach for the Spurs since 1996 and has made San Antonio one of the most respected teams in the league.

He tied with Don Nelson and Pat Riley for the most coaches in NBA history to win the coach of the year.

In November, Popovich suffered a minor stroke and quit the team and focused on recovery. Chief assistant coach Mickey Johnson has been appointed interim head coach. Popovich did not return in the 2024-25 season, which has sparked speculation about whether he can coach the team in the future.
