Manchester announces 1 billion city investment plan, but Manchester United cannot use it to build its stadium

Hupu, November 21, according to the latest report from the famous reporter Matt Lawton of The Times, Manchester United’s new stadium project has received major benefits, and the government has committed for the first time to provide a large amount of public funds for the overall transformation of the area around Old Trafford.

While United understand they cannot rely on any public funding to build the 100,000-capacity stadium, their plans still rely on local and national government support for the entire project.

On Thursday, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham unveiled a city investment plan of more than £1 billion, with the first £26 million of which will be used to build 382 new homes at the Trafford Quays development.

Manchester United still faces other challenges. Negotiations over the land needed for the development are continuing with Freightliner Group, which owns a rail goods yard site outside Old Trafford, and central government support is also needed. The club still needs to raise funds for the stadium construction, which experts estimate could cost up to £3 billion.

But Burnham's promise is still a step forward. Colette Roach, Chief Operating Officer of Manchester United, said: "We are delighted to see the redevelopment of Old Trafford becoming the centerpiece of Greater Manchester's overall development plan for the next ten years.

We want to build the best football stadium in the world as Manchester United's new home ground and make it the ideal venue to host major international events including the 2035 FIFA Women's World Cup. Stadium It will be surrounded by vibrant business, leisure and residential areas and has excellent transport links.

We are determined to work with other stakeholders to realize this vision and unlock the huge benefits it will bring to the surrounding community and wider region."

The ultimate goal is to build up to 15,000 new homes near Manchester United's new state-of-the-art stadium.
