Guess what they were talking about? Both of them were close to leaving the team this summer. Gueye and Joe Gomez had a heated conversation after the game.
On October 30, Liverpool suffered a 0-3 defeat at home to Crystal Palace in this round of the League Cup. The "Liverpool Echo" revealed that after the game, Guey and Joe Gomez had a heated exchange. It is an open secret that Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Mark Gueye this summer failed. The Crystal Palace captain even underwent a medical on transfer deadline day, but the buzzer-beating deal fell through at the last minute as the London club failed to find a replacement. Joe Gomez is another defender whose future was uncertain on September 1. Despite receiving invitations from clubs such as AC Milan, he ultimately stayed at Liverpool. If Guey had successfully joined the team at that time, this meritorious defender who had played for many years would probably have left the team. After the final whistle, the two players who had just experienced a 90-minute confrontation had an in-depth exchange on the sidelines that lasted for about a minute. Although the core content of the dialogue is unknown, this is indeed the first opportunity for direct communication between the two parties since the two transactions were aborted in early September. As proud sons of South London, they may just be talking about their nostalgia. But that transfer deadline day was undoubtedly a turning point in both men's careers - and when they stopped to chat at the end of the match, it was hard not to think that this was at the heart of their conversation.
