Trae Young misses the best team, may miss out on the contract renewal of over $116 million

NBA officially announced the list of the 2024-25 regular season best teams yesterday. The Hawks star and league assist King Trae Yang unfortunately lost. This selection result may cause him to face potential losses of up to US$116 million in future contract negotiations.

According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks, Trae Young is eligible to sign a four-year maximum salary renewal with a total of $229 million this summer. But if he can be selected for the All-Season team, he can trigger the "designated veteran clause" and be qualified to sign a super maximum salary of $345 million in five years.

This means that Yang will miss $116 million in potential revenue due to the loss of the best team. Trae Young's current contract will end in the 2026-27 season, with annual salary:

2024-25 season: US$43.03 million

2025-26 season: approximately US$46 million

2026-27 season: Player options worth US$48.97 million

In the past season, Yang played 76 games, averaged 36 minutes per game, contributing 24.2 points, 11.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals, ranking among the top of the league's assist list for the third consecutive year.
