Salary expert says offseason contract signing players

With changes in labor-management negotiation agreements, coupled with the lack of salary cap space and big-name free agents, the drama this summer may be mainly about whether players renew their contracts with their team. If they do, that would be great. If they don't, then rumors about their future will increase.

Here are some players who may (or will not) sign a huge new contract this summer:

Luca Doncic

Lakers: On August 2, his contract could be added to $4 years and $229 million. But he could also (probably more financially wise) sign for $165 million in three years and have a chance to opt out in 2028.

Nikola Jokic

Nuggets: Jokic has been the coveted superstar for the past decade - no pressure, go all out, MVP, champion. He has three years left, so there is no need to extend it now, but he can extend it for another two years. Although he has not returned to the Finals in the past two seasons and the Nuggets have let go of quite a bit of talent, he has shown no signs of dissatisfaction with the team. So there is no reason not to sign for more years!

Spurs' De Aaron Fox

On August 3, Fox can sign a four-year and $229 million contract, which is expected to do after trading three first-round picks for him in February this year.

Devin Booker, the four-time All-Star player can add two years and $150 million after July 6 (not typos, or $75 million per season), all signs that this is happening. Doing so brings his contract in Phoenix to 2030.

Trey Young, the Hawks, who can sign up to four years and $229 million, but after four consecutive years of playoffs and with a new front desk, it’s still uncertain whether the Hawks will offer the contract.

Carl-Anthony Towns, Knicks, performed well in his first year in New York, but his contract has three years left. It's not a referendum, but he can choose to withdraw from last year and add a new three-year and $212 million contract to allow him to sign the contract over the next five years.

Ja Morant, the 25-year-old defender has three years left on his contract and may be added for another two years. But over the past four years, he averaged only 44 games per season due to injuries and suspensions, and the Grizzlies often underperformed while he led the team.

Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies

Memphis can use its cap space to renegotiate and renew Jackson - the team is working to do that. He has one year left on his contract, which is worth $23 million.

Taylor Herro, Heat

After his best season, he can sign in October for a three-year price of up to $150 million. Hero may not quite meet the criteria for getting such a contract, depending on who you ask, and it is possible that the Heat want to get him something less valuable. He has one year left on his contract, and if there is no new one, he will see his name in the deal rumours.

Christaps Porzingis, the Celtics entered the final year of their contract, earning $30.7 million, and he is ready to sign a new contract. But the Celtics are already very expensive and face an uncertain future with the arrival of a new boss, and Porzingis' injury history could complicate reaching a satisfying number.
