Rockets inside core: I was not used to it when I first came to the NBA, but I kept exploring

Houston Rockets interior star Alperen Sengun is currently in training in Turkey. He also accepted interviews with reporters during his training, and in the interview he talked about the many difficult times he experienced when he first came to the NBA. Shin Kyung said: The NBA is a completely test of your spirit. You need to play a game every two or three days, and under this high pressure, I have made great progress on the psychological level. When I first arrived in the NBA, I did have a difficult time. We lost too many games, and my playing time wasn't that stable, and none of this was the situation I was used to. In Türkiye, we don’t have that many games to play, and starting with the youth training system, whenever we lose a game, our reaction is like someone is dead.

Shin Kyung continued: So when I came to the NBA, it was difficult for me to change my mentality and get rid of this idea. Basketball itself is something that needs to be explored by oneself. You learn and accumulate experience by constantly playing on the court. I can say that now after several seasons of exercise, I have achieved a lot of physical and psychological improvement. Since I was a child, I have been a person who can adapt quickly after I arrived in a new environment. After spending some time in the NBA, I have been observing how my teammates and coaches act, and then I also use these experiences to improve my strength and performance. These are things I did myself, so my psychology gradually became very strong.

In the NBA regular season last season, Shin Kyung played 76 games for the Rockets in 82 games, averaging 31.5 minutes per game, averaging 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks, and 2.6 turnovers and 2.8 fouls. His shooting percentage was 49.6%, a three-point shooting percentage of 23.3%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 69.2%. In the playoffs, Shin Kyung made a total of 7 appearances, averaging 36.6 minutes, averaging 20.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.4 blocks, and 2.1 turnovers and 3.7 fouls. He shot 45% from the field, 37.5% from three-point shooting percentage and 62.5% from free throws. When Shin Kyung first joined the Rockets, he was unable to gain the trust of the team's head coach Stephen Silas at that time. He could only serve as the Rockets' substitute center for the reconstruction period. His playing time and his role on the court could not reach a stable level. However, Shin Kyung still gained a stable position through his own efforts. His performance in the NBA are getting better and better. He eventually became the core figure of the team and signed a long contract with the team last summer. It is not easy for European players to survive in the NBA, but Shin Kyung has already gained a foothold in the team.
