People familiar with the matter reveal the Warriors best offer to Kumingga
According to F/W analyst Sidante Gupta, US sports media. Jonathan Cumingga and the Warriors failed to agree this offseason as a recent report on the group’s best offer for the young defender showed the difference in perspectives. Golden State Warriors' offseason was overshadowed by negotiations with restricted free agent Jonathan Cumingga. As negotiations failed to reach a resolution, NBA insider Mark Stein revealed the Warriors' best offer to Cuminga, highlighting the gap between the two sides. "There is news that the Warriors' best offer to Cuminga has reached the two-year $40 million cap. Cuminga's camp has been continuing to look for sign-on-one and trade opportunities, with Sacramento and Phoenix still considered the most determined suitors, but the Golden State Warriors are said to want a first-round pick in any sign-on-one and trade deal. The Suns have no available first-round picks to offer." A two-year offer with $40 million standing out, especially compared to other restricted free agents offered this year. While this seems generous, it is not consistent with Kumingga's long-term wish. The 22-year-old striker is eager to become a star. It can be argued that he has not proved himself worthy of the star treatment in his contract, but the Warriors have not consistently provided him with the playing time he needs to show his potential. While some claim that Kumingga asked for an annual salary of $30 million, the striker's agent has come forward to deny that he had rejected such a offer. reported that Kumingga is willing to wait until the two sides reach a resolution. With the trade being his top pick result, the Warriors have seen reasonable interest from the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings. Both teams shared their offer to Kuminga. The Kings offer a package centered on Devin Carter and a second-round draft pick. Meanwhile, the Suns offer a deal centered around Grayson Allen and draft compensation. Considering that the Warriors’ asking price for Cuminga involves a young player, draft compensation (at least one first-round pick), and no "bad" contract, neither team has proposed a plan that meets their demands. Warriors and Kumingga are still in a stalemate. Although the forward seems unmoved, the impact on the organization is huge. The longer the delay is on both sides, the worse the situation for the Golden State Warriors is, as the current contract negotiation process is preventing the Warriors from taking any further action. There were no major signings during the offseason, and Dubs actually stagnated. Given the assets that parted ways with the team this offseason, it is safe to say that the Warriors' current approach is also counterproductive. The situation in Kuminga now appears to be moving towards a contract transaction rather than a long-term extension. Although the proposed package has not received good reviews, Dubs may be forced to make a decision so they can continue to close pending deals.
