Big gamble failed! Post: Wolves chairman gives Pereira the power to recruit and reorganize the management according to his wishes
On November 4, the Post published an article that disclosed the behind-the-scenes story of Wolves coach Pereira's dismissal. The article revealed that despite the poor start, he still renewed Pereira's contract and supported him until 2 draws and 8 losses before dismissing him. This was all because Wolves chairman Shi Yu placed all his bets on Pereira. It is said that after taking over the team midway through last season and successfully leading the team to avoid relegation, Wolves chairman Shi Yu decided to reorganize the football operations department in accordance with Pereira's wishes. Sporting director Matt Hobbs departs and is replaced by a five-man football leadership team, with Pereira ally Domenico Tetti at its core. Hobbs is not universally loved and his record at Wolves has been mixed, but replacing him with Tetti, who has never worked in English football, would certainly be a gamble. Pereira was given the final say on signings and had clear instructions on the type of players he wanted: tall, strong, athletic players who fit his 3-4-2-1 system. The only problem? Pereira abandoned the system after just five games and has been using a 4-3-3 formation ever since, with no results, even if performance improved slightly. This meant that players were bought to fit a plan that Pereira stopped using just weeks into the season. This is the risk that comes with a manager or head coach who has too much power. Against Fulham, Pereira returned to a three-centre-back system, but it was too late.
