Sinner reached the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters for the first time
Sinner moved somewhat cautiously between points in the first set with a muscle strain in his right leg, but he did not require medical attention throughout the 86-minute match. The second seed scored 12 winners and made only 2 unforced errors in the first set to win 7-5. The Italian player then won a 10-minute game at the beginning of the second set to break Cerundolo's serve. From that point on, Sinner accelerated to victory. "I took the lead twice with winning return games in the first set but couldn't keep the advantage ", Sinner said after the match on October 30. "I put myself in a not easy situation, but I'm satisfied with the way I finished the match. Hopefully I can recover my fitness for the quarterfinals, that's the top priority ". With this victory, Sinner became the first Italian player to reach the quarterfinals at all ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. The 24-year-old tennis player was crowned at the Masters 1000 in Miami, Canada, Cincinnati and Shanghai. Sinner has won her last 23 matches on indoor hard courts and continues to raise hopes of becoming world number one after the tournament, after Carlos Alcaraz's early defeat in Paris. The Italian can return to the top of the ATP rankings next Monday if he wins his first Masters 1000 title this season. Sinner's next opponent is No. 5 seed Ben Shelton, after the American defeated Andrey Rublev 7-6(6), 6-3. Both Shelton and Sinner will appear at the year's best-of-eight ATP Finals next month. Shelton won against Sinner in Shanghai in 2023 but lost all six subsequent encounters, not winning a single set. In other matches, Daniil Medvedev still maintained hope of winning a ticket to the ATP Finals with a hard-fought 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 victory over Lorenzo Sonego. The 29-year-old tennis player is currently ranked 13th in the race for the ATP Finals, and must win in Paris to have a chance to participate in Turin next month.. Medvedev won his first title in 882 days in early October in Almaty, and reached the semi-finals in Beijing and Shanghai in recent weeks. Winning a ticket to the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 for the 25th time in his career, Medvedev will meet defending champion Alexander Zverev - who defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-4.
