Watkins: I feel good about playing in the full preseason. We have ambitious goals in the new season
August 11th Aug. Aston Villa defeated Villa 2-0 in the last preseason game, and Aston Villa striker Watkins was interviewed by the media. "It was a really good game, obviously, we were facing different environments here, the weather was very hot, but the game was a great game. I really enjoyed the game and it was a good preseason for us. We had some good tests in Nashville against Rome and Marseille. Our last game here went well and it laid a good foundation for our weekend matches." Watkins was in great form during the preseason, scoring 5 goals, which was a stark contrast to last summer when he was injured after playing for England in the 2024 European Cup. Speaking of this, Watkins said: "For players, the preseason is crucial. It sets the stage for your performance throughout the season. Last season, I didn't have such opportunities. I didn't play any preseason so I've been trying to catch up on the pace. It means a lot to me to be able to play in these games, to make myself feel good, to regain confidence and start the new season with all my might." Aston Villa will play Newcastle at home in the first round of the Premier League, Watkins continued: "I'm very looking forward to returning to Villa Park because we haven't played there in the preseason. It's great to play at the full Villa Park again - I miss that feeling. We have big goals this season, and it will all start with Saturday's match against Newcastle."
