Official: Chelsea have signed a professional contract with 17-year-old goalkeeper Bernal, who was selected for England U18

On October 28, Chelsea officially announced that it had signed its first professional contract with 17-year-old goalkeeper Bernal.

Chelsea official wrote: "The club is pleased to confirm that youth goalkeeper Freddy Bernal has signed his first professional contract with the Blues."

The 17-year-old goalkeeper has joined Chelsea since he was 8 years old and has gradually grown up at the Cobhan Youth Academy. Bernal signed his scholarship contract at Stamford Bridge before the 2025/26 season and quickly became a regular starter for Chelsea's U18s. He also gained valuable experience at a higher level and was selected for the U21 team's match squad.

The young goalkeeper's growth also extended to the European arena, where he performed well in the European Youth League, helping Chelsea's youth team achieve impressive victories against Bayern Munich, Benfica and Ajax.

Bernar's outstanding performance has also been recognized internationally and he has been frequently selected for England youth training camps. He made his debut for the England U18 team in September and ushered in a victory against Uzbekistan.
