French media: Operating income fell 24% last season, Lyon s fiscal losses
According to French media RMC on July 30, Lyon Club suffered serious financial losses in the 2024-25 season.
Despite increased ticket revenue and profitable player sales, Lyon's operating income in 2024-25 season still fell by 24%, and the financial statements to be released in the near future are expected to be "ugly". EagleFootball Group, the owner of Lyon Club, announced on Monday that club operating income fell 24% in the 2024-25 season and warned that financial statements to be released in the coming weeks will have a "severe loss".
The group said in a statement that Lyon's operating income was 273.8 million euros in the 2024-25 season, a decrease of 87.6 million euros from the previous year (361.3 million euros).
Despite increased ticket revenues for the Europa League and Ligue 1 (up 8.9 million and 3 million euros respectively), television share and marketing revenues fell sharply by 52%.
Among them, the revenue of Ligue 1 television broadcasting decreased by 71.8 million euros, mainly due to the 2024-2029 television broadcasting rights agreement between DAZN and Ligue 1.
Partner and advertising revenue decreased by €6.8 million (from €37.1 million to €30.4 million).
Brand revenue fell by 4.8 million euros, and business activity revenue fell by 57%, to 18.7 million euros.
Against the backdrop of the club's administrative relegation to Leicester II (announced by DNCG on June 24 and successfully resumed on July 9 appeal), player sales revenue increased by 15% to 111.6 million euros.
Despite the unsatisfactory financial situation, the club has set the goal of continuing to qualify for the European War under the leadership of the new president.
