TA: Bellingham has shoulder surgery this summer, may be injured and missed the start of La Liga next season
May 21 According to TA, Real Madrid plans to have Bellingham perform shoulder surgery after the 2025 Club World Cup to solve long-standing shoulder problems. Experts consulted by TA pointed out that Bellingham is expected to miss about 12 weeks of postoperative recovery period, which means he will miss the start of the 2025-26 La Liga season. Bellingham dislocated his left shoulder against Vallecano. Bellingham insisted on finishing the game at the time, but then missed four games between the club and the national team, and has been using shoulder pads frequently since then. TA reported in October that anonymous Real Madrid sources revealed that the club understood that Bellingham would eventually need surgery to ensure a complete recovery in the shoulder to avoid the risk of a high probability of another dislocation in the future. Due to the need to reserve sufficient recovery time, the intensive schedule has not allowed Bellingham to obtain a surgical window. It is reported that the surgery will be arranged in the clinic commonly used by Real Madrid players. Ferran Mendy, Rudiger and Militon underwent quadriceps femoris, meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) operations at the clinic this season. It is not clear whether Bellingham had a history of shoulder injury before his injury to Vallecano in the first season, but in 2023, Real Madrid staff revealed that the club knew that he had shoulder problems during his time at Dortmund from 2020 to 2023. Historical photos show that he had worn shoulder guards twice while playing for Dortmund. This season, Bellingham has played 51 games for Real Madrid in various competitions, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists. The first Club World Cup will be held from June 15 to July 13, and Real Madrid is in the H Group with Riyadh Crescent, Pachuca and Salzburg Red Bull.
