Spanish media: The referee of the national derby is a Barcelona fan and has made mistakes in Real Madrid games

He is one of three Spanish male referees to be qualified as UEFA Elite referee, which means he is one of the top referees in Europe. Although he has only enforced 12 Champions League games, five of which are qualifiers, he has reached his peak this season, enforcing two Champions League group stages, including one from Inter, who has advanced to the finals.

Less well known is that Hernandez has also enforced the law twice in the Champions League final. The first time was in the 2019-20 season, when Paris Saint-Germain played against Bayern Munich, where he served as an assistant referee. The second time was in Manchester City's match against Chelsea a year later, and it was interesting that the then VAR assistant referee was Munuela, who will be the VAR referee for tonight's game.

For UEFA, Hernandez is one of the trusted referees. In fact, he served as VAR referee in his first Champions League match using VAR technology in February 2019.
