Official: Watzke succeeds Luhnow as Borussia Dortmund president

Hupu reported on November 24 that Dortmund officially issued an announcement announcing that Watzke, who had just stepped down as CEO, would succeed Luhnow as club chairman.

The official announcement is as follows:

The Borussia Dortmund General Meeting of Shareholders elected Hans-Joachim Watzke as the club’s president.

This Sunday afternoon, Hans-Joachim Watzke was elected as the 19th president of Borussia Dortmund Football Club by voting at the general meeting of shareholders. Prior to this, the 66-year-old manager had resigned as CEO of Borussia Dortmund AG. Watzke will take over this position from Dr. Reinhold Luhnow (72 years old), who decided not to run for re-election.

After taking office as club president, Watzke said that he will be committed to "promoting communication and collaboration among all parties" and "becoming a club president who unites, mutually trusts and focuses on the future in the hearts of all Dortmund members." He also announced that he would establish a "Charter Committee with a balanced membership" to promote "further professionalization of club operations" and also advocated "letting more women hold key management positions" and promised to fully support the development of the club's elite football and youth training football-related departments.
