Manchester City chases Barcelona star, replaces missed Florian Wilz
A report says Manchester City are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Danny Olmo as they are ready to miss the signing of Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Werz. Manchester City are looking for some new midfield magic as they prepare to say goodbye to Kevin De Bruyne at the end of the season. Wilz has long been touted as a coveted goal, but the German international is increasingly connected with Bayern Munich, forcing Manchester City to find other goals. The roster of alternative targets are long, with Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Frankfurt's Hugo Larson being considered, but Relevo said Olmo ranked the highest on City's wish list. Guardiola's side was one of many teams associated with Ormo during the January transfer window, when he left Barcelona on a free transfer mode as a failure to register was still ongoing. The City manager is believed to dream of attracting Olmo to Etihad this summer, making the Spanish international his number one midfield target, and some even think that Olmo is now above Wiltz on Guardiola's shortlist. Barcelona signed Olmo from RB Leipzig for €47 million last summer and did not want to part ways with the 27-year-old, whose love for the club is a big reason why he remains there in the face of registration uncertainty. That being said, Manchester City has enough financial resources to come up with an offer that Barcelona may be forced to consider. However, they may require high fees to part ways with a player who often starts under Hansey Flick. Olmo's contract with Barcelona expires in 2030, meaning from this perspective, the La Liga champions no pressure to agree to the sale. This may largely depend on the final ruling on the registration of Ormo, which has been sent back to the national court as La Liga continues to argue that Barcelona does not have the funds needed to get the midfielder on the field.
