BBC: Due to changes in EFL rules, Jiwu can represent Chelsea in the league Cup this season

Hupu September 24th BBC reported that due to changes in league rules this season, Chelsea striker Mark Giou is eligible to participate in the third round of the League Cup against Lincoln City on Tuesday.

Chelsea did not seem to be aware of the changes in the rules, but Chelsea asked the EFL for clarification hours before Tuesday's game started.

Giu is not expected to play at Lincoln Stadium, but if Chelsea advances, he will be considered for Chelsea's selection in the coming rounds.

The Spanish striker represented Sunderland in the League Cup last month when he was loaned to the Black Cats.

In previous seasons, this means he can't play Chelsea as he will "go to the Cup" - which means he can only play Cup for one club each season.

But the new rules of this season stipulate that players can compete in League Cup games for both clubs in the same season.

The 19-year-old was recalled by Chelsea due to the injury of Liam Drapp.

Jiu played three times for the Black Cats and scored a goal in the second round of the League Cup defeat to English League One team Huddersfield in August.

The changes to the League Cup rules introduced early this season allow players to transfer between league rounds and within specific periods, thus playing for two different clubs.

At the beginning of the new season, Jiwu officially became a Chelsea player. The EFL believed that he was considered a Chelsea player and approved the change.
